Having both a pattern and a tech pack for your factory is the most amount of information that you can supply to them to ensure your first fit sample is the best it can be. Having a pattern helps make the correct decisions on how to alter tricky fit issues. There are many technical rules and guidelines required for a well constructed pattern in order to produce a well fitted garment.

A detailed sketch, reference pictures and/or sample garments of what your design looks like is essential.
What fabric you will use for your garment. Does your fabric have any patterns or stripes to match?
Trim details (eg. Button type & size, zip type, fusing, prints/embroidery)
What size you want to fit your first sample on and the body measurements of your fit model/mannequin.
